The development of The Evil Within 2 maintains the formula of the original game: controlling Sebastian in third person, we have to overcome the maps, which are full of deformed creatures, while we investigate the area to find items, documents that clarify the story a little more or secondary characters with whom to dialogue and even start side quests.
On paper, the idea of having a more open environment is interesting and, although we must praise the relative balance they have achieved between exploration and maintaining a tense atmosphere, deep down one feels that those parts are "straw". If we are in a survival horror, what we want is an intense development that has us on the ropes, not exploring so much. In any case, the reality is that these open areas are rather at the beginning of the game, but in the second half (there are 17 chapters in total, which took us 19 hours to complete) everything is again more oriented towards the classic experience of horror adventures like Resident Evil 4... Or The Evil Within itself, of course. We reiterate, there are interesting ideas in the open areas, but in the background they remain in a feeling of "neither lemonade nor lemonade" that, fortunately, is diluted as we advance more and more in the plot.
